Bulldog Hardware:
Strong, Reliable Products with a Proven Track-Record of Innovation

For over 135 years, Bulldog Hardware has been developing fastening products to make Do-It-Yourself projects easier, always delivering professional-looking results. We offer consumers picture hanging accessories, anchors and specialty fasteners, basic home improvement hardware such as nuts, bolts and screws and organizational tools for the home. Bulldog Hardware has built its brand on the key characteristics of an English Bulldog. As the breed suggests, Bulldog Hardware is durable, rugged and loyal. The bulldog is bred for strength; so, too, are Bulldog products, which are strong, solid, reliable and practical.

Birth of the Company

Bulldog has its roots in Boston, Massachusetts, beginning in 1875 as the E.H. Tate Company. At that time, E.H. Tate manufactured various types of picture hanging accessories. Newell Rubbermaid, the parent company of Bulldog today, purchased the E.H. Tate Company in June of 1969 and moved the production facility to Ogdensburg, New York, under the name of Bulldog.

Growth through Acquisition

Through organic growth and strategic corporate acquisitions, Bulldog Hardware has evolved into the powerhouse that it is today.

In 1955, Jordan Industries was started in Miami, Florida, as a manufacturer of anchoring devices (consumer and professional). In October 1974, Newell acquired Jordan Industries and merged the line into the Bulldog portfolio. Jordan production remained in Miami.

In parallel fashion, Jiffy was started during the 1950's in Pennsauken, New Jersey, as a manufacturer of basic home improvement hardware and novelty items. Newell purchased Jiffy in May 1978. The product range was added to Bulldog with the organization being named Bulldog/Jordan/Jiffy, and Jiffy production was moved to Ogdensburg, New York.

Meanwhile, a company called Handi-Man began in Newark, New Jersey, during the 1950's as an importer and packager of nuts, bolts and screws. Newell acquired Handi-Man in October 1982, which was then integrated with Bulldog/Jordan/Jiffy.

The Star Expansion brand — the premier full-line contractor grade anchor program — was added to Bulldog Hardware in September 1995. Similarly, VSI Fasteners was acquired by Bulldog Hardware in December 1996 to complete the brand portfolio. New product categories were subsequently added, including Chain, Power Drive and Hard-to-Find Specialty.

Today, Bulldog Hardware is a major, diversified brand in the convenience hardware category and its products can be found in many major retailers throughout the country.
